Time to give the players some love. A new member of the team, player features, and much more!

The Players’ Improvements Update!

While many of the features we develop are managed by Astral GMs, we are constantly thinking of ways to improve the Astral Player experience as well. Here are a few new features that will help make your Astral encounters even more enjoyable.

New Party Member

Before we get into the new features, we are thrilled to welcome Jon Irons to the team as Astral’s resident Growth Wizard!

You’ll be seeing his face a lot in the Astral Discord and he’ll be spinning up some killer new content on the Astral YouTube & Twitch channels in the coming weeks. If you have requests for RPG systems you would like to see featured, shoot him an Email or reach out on Twitter.

Initiative Tracker for Players

A frequently requested feature for players is now live: Players have an additional option, located above the Brush tool, to open the Player view for the game’s Initiative Tracker.

The player version of the Initiative Tracker is thinned down, and all GM tools remain hidden to players. GM’s will have the options under their Settings menu to control:

Additionally, while this update was mostly about the players, we included some quality of life improvements for Game Masters as well. When the GMs use any of the “Add” options on the Initiative Tracker, the characters added to combat will now have their first “Initiative” action rolled automatically into chat and added as their initiative score. No more tracking down “Initiative” actions for each NPC!

Player Character Creation Improvements

Players will now have more control over how they create characters when joining a new campaign. This is a completely overhauled experience, that will make hopping into an Astral encounter simpler and faster than ever before.

Player Onboarding

Players and GMs will now have the option to select from a number of Ready-to-Play Characters upon entering a game. Of course, Players and GMs will still have the option to import characters from their vault or create one from a template.

We currently offer Ready-to-Play Characters for D&D 5th Edition, Call of Cthulhu, and Pathfinder 2nd Edition. Didn’t see your favorite TTRPG in there? Don’t you worry – we are working hard to expand these offerings include to other popular systems.

We’re thrilled to announce that we’re expanding support for Astral into several new languages!
