More Ways to Roll

Over the past couple of weeks, we have been working with the beta team to extend the functionality of Astral’s roll syntax. We are extremely happy to announce that the extended roll syntax in now live for everyone!

There are many cool things you can do with the extended roll syntax, including counting successes/fumbles, grouping dice, and setting critical success or failure thresholds. Read the docs to see all the amazing things you can do.

Official Publisher Adventures In Beta

We heard you! For some time now, we’ve been coordinating with various publishers to deliver official adventures and modules for use on Astral.

In addition to working with esteemed publishers such as Paizo, Onyx Path Publishing, Chaosium, and more, we have been working on a new home screen to make accessing this new content easy:

New Home Screen

The new home screen will be evolving over time, but our initial hope is that it unifies the Astral experience, making it easy to know what to do and where to go - as well as offering, new, ready-to-play content for you and your players, with minimal prep time.

Get Ready for Adventure(s)!

If you’re a beta user, you will have access to Torment and Legacy for Pathfinder 2nd Edition and A Mishap of Ill Portent for 5th Edition (Open Game License D&D compatible), set in Onyx Path’s Scarred Lands setting. We sincerely recommend creating one of these adventures for your group to see the many different ways you can use Astral. (If you’re not a beta user, why not? New Advanced Tutorial Map

Today we’ve released an additional map for those GMs that are looking to level up their Astral Knowledge. Have you ever wondered how to control what your players see and can interact with? How about how to place audio on the map for range-based ambient noise? The “Advanced GM Controls Map” is now available for anyone making a new Advanced Tutorial from the Create Game screen.

These tutorials will be easily accessible from the new home screen, but in the meantime you can still create your own Advanced Tutorial via the create game screen shown here:

Behind the Screen

We continue to improve on Astral’s back-end infrastructure to clear away performance issues that have arisen as Astral receives more and more traffic. The new features above, while they seem like a divergence from addressing performance concerns, were actually a huge step forward for us and allowed us to deprecate some old and crufty code. This has helped us decrease the load time for all pages across Astral. We also have a few other improvements in the works that will help increase the performance of games and characters. These improvements will be released to everyone alongside the release of the new home screen and modules. We are working with the beta team to ensure there are no major issues.
