We continue to be extremely motivated by all our new users who have started to play their tabletop roleplaying games on Astral and are also grateful for the patience the community has shown as we address some performance-related issues.
Earlier this week, we introduced a small but mighty performance update to beta. In this update, we set out to improve the performance of double-click beacons and online statuses. We decided to start with these features as they would be simple to test and monitor and if things went wrong, they wouldn't be game breaking. The changes might have been minor, but paved the way for major performance updates in the near future. This week, we released this small performance update to everyone and are now monitoring the impact of the change to ensure we're delivering on our promises.
This week, we began testing chat using this new infrastructure in beta and hope to release the update to everyone next week.
While the changelog might look a bit sparse this week, rest assured we have our hands full as we continue to address and measure the impact of performance updates for Astral!
We continue to address reported issues and requests. As always, we are very interested in your feedback.
More requests from the community were addressed this week:
Thank you to everyone who reported issues this week.
As mentioned above, we are continuing to investigate and monitor bottlenecks in order to improve performance.
Next week we are focusing on finalizing chat performance improvements and beginning work to improve character and sheet saving and syncing times.
Work has begun to introduce new flags and features to the roll syntax. Some of the enhancements in progress include:
We plan to roll out (see what we did there?) the enhanced roll syntax to beta users in the coming weeks.
We're continuing to look at the forums for feature requests, support tickets, and Discord to hear what you all have to say. Please don't hesitate to reach out and voice your feedback. Our table always has an open seat, let us know what you think.
Thanks for reading and for being a dedicated Astralnaut! We look forward to bringing you more updates from the Astral Plane.
