This past week a record-setting number of gamers joined the Astral community. Welcome all new Astralnauts!
We want to make playing TTRPGs online with your friends as easy and as immersive as possible. We hope everyone finds Astral intuitive to use, but Astral is a powerful tool with lots of features. We understand it might be a little intimidating at first - Tutorials to the rescue!
Whenever you create a new game on Astral you will have the option to create one of the interactive tutorials.
Create your own tutorial games and then jump in and start mastering Astral’s many features. Each tutorial is modular, with different maps covering a variety of topics.
The basic tutorial guides you through navigating the game screen and sidebars, and the basics of characters, combat, and map editing.
The all-new advanced tutorial (released today!) shows you tricks for easier player and token management (e.g. how do I apply that burning hands damage to all four goblins at once) and dives into more advanced map editing with triggers and dynamic lighting (e.g. I click this to instantly reveal the pit trap during play). We’ll be adding more content to the advanced tutorial in the weeks ahead.
Beyond the tutorials, you can also find answers to questions in the Astral Knowledgebase. When you have a burning question like, “How do I roll a dice pool of Dexterity number of dice and count anything above 6 as a success?” the knowledge base is here to help.
Did you know when you select your character token in Astral, the spacebar will toggle your character sheet open and closed? To navigate Astral’s interface at quickling speed, it helps to master a few of the keyboard shortcuts.
After almost a month in development, we are ready to release the new character sheet experience for all beta users.
The new character sheets address and fix a lot of the previous feedback you've all had. This first pass doesn't address everything but we hope you find it easier and less confusing than the current character sheets.

Now that character sheets are in beta, we will begin iterating on the feedback we hear. There are still some previous issues with the new sheets we're aware of that we will be cleaning up next week.
Of course, once sheets are out, we still are highly interested in feedback and making it better - so let us know what you think!
We are aware of a couple of issues with the new sheets in beta:
Our next project is cleaning up the vault components used around the site, such as in the audio player, character portrait picker, and the right-sidebar when editing maps. We know this is often a pain point for many new users and we want to make discovering content a lot easier.
Included in this cleanup will be improving search and making assets faster to organize and navigate.
We plan to start this initiative next week.
We're continuing to look at the forums for feature requests, support tickets, and Discord to hear what you all have to say. Please don't hesitate to reach out and voice your feedback. Our table always has an open seat, let us know what you think.
